1893 0j Jan De Cooman is
born on 4 august at Zandbergen as the 4th son of Leopold and
Maria-Louisa Heylemans. 13j Jan goes to school
in the Atheneum of Ninove 1908 15j This is one of the
oldest discovered paintings of Jan. 1910 17j Jan follows painting
art at the Academy of Bel Arts in Brussels. 1914 21j Jan has just
graduated as the Worldwar 1 breaks out.

Worldwar 1 Jan goes to Leuven. (drawing of the old hospital
in Leuven). 1920 27j Jan marries Clara
Flamée. They move into a villa on the Oudenberg at
Geraardsbergen. 1921 28j birth of 1st son

Emiel on 29-dec. 1924 30j birth of 3rd son

Lieven on 16-may 1925 31j Jan prints the first

Way of the Cross; for the chapel of the institution for

Gheenens and moves in the parental house at Zandbergen.
Birth of daughter Rita. 10 1947 53j With this etching
"In May" Jan wins the first prize at the tri-annual of
Milano. 1949 55j Jan dies on 11-june
in this home at Zandbergen. 1974 25 years after his
death a retrospective exposition is held at Zandbergen where
a street is named after him. Hugo De Cooman (een
grandchild of Jan) founds the "Kunstkring Jan De Cooman"
(=Art League) 1999 50 years after his
death a great retrospective exposition is organised at
Geraardsbergen
